IIMDD Bishkek branch held a public dialogue "Measures to Improve Local Elections"

IIMDD IPA CIS Bishkek branch, the Working Group on the Improvement of the Electoral Legislation of the Kyrghyz Republic and the Administration of the Mayor of Bishkek in Pervomaisky District held a public dialogue on Measures to Improve Local Elections". The meeting was attended by deputies of the City Kenesh, members of the Bishkek territorial election commission, staff of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, representatives of civil society and the local government of Bishkek.
The key goal of the event was to discuss with representatives of Bishkek local government the current issues of legislation regulating local elections.
Chair of the Bishkek City Kenesh Almaz Kenenbaev, Deputy Director of the IIMDD IPA CIS Sergei Karavaev and Chair of the Bishkek Territorial Election Commission Kairat Mamatov welcomed the participants of the discussion.
The public dialogue discussed measures to improve the legislation on local elections and elections of heads of local government. Chair of the Bishkek TEC, Member of the Working Group on the Improvement of the Electoral Legislation of the Kyrghyz Republic Kairat Mamatov made a presentation. The issues of electoral quotas in the electoral process, creation of conditions for participation in the voting of persons with disabilities, enhancing the mechanisms for preventing and suppressing violations of the electoral legislation were also on the agenda. Head of the Department on Working with the IIMDD IPA CIS Branches Roman Amburtsev made a report on the experience of the CIS countries in building conditions for the implementation of active and passive electoral rights of citizens".
