IIMDD IPA CIS Chisinau Office holds a conference on the electoral behavior of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova

An international scientific conference “Impact of Change in the Electoral System on the Outcomes of Electoral Behavior of the Citizens of the Republic of Moldova during the Parliamentary Elections in 2019: Sociological Analysis, Conclusions, Recommendations and Proposals Following the Findings of the Monitoring” took place in Chisinau.

The event brought together members of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Chairperson of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova Alina Russu, leaders of political parties and public organizations, as well as experts and journalists.

Opening the conference, Director of the IIMDD IPA CIS Chisinau Office Evgeniy Stirbu congratulated the participants and noted that the parliamentary elections, which had taken place on 24 February 2019, would long serve as a study subject for scientific, in particular, sociological research due to a number of amendments introduced in the electoral legislation.

CEC Chairperson Alina Russu in her welcoming address stressed that such studies are of particular value for the governmental bodies and the society, since they helped to understand the developmental patterns of the country and define which direction in should move further.

Deputy Director of the IIMDD IPA CIS Sergy Karavaev welcomed the participants on behalf of the Institute.

Director of the Institute of Legal, Political and Sociological Studies Viktor Zhuk also delivered a report at the conference, commending the cooperation between his institute and the IIMDD IPA CIS Chisinau Office.

Chairman of the Association of Sociologists and Demographists of Moldova Viktor Mocanu presented the results of the study “Impact of Changes in the Electoral System on the Outcomes of Electoral Behavior of the Citizens of the Republic of Moldova during the Parliamentary Elections in 2019”. In his turn, head of the IIMDD IPA CIS expert group Dmitry Baryshnikov presented a report “Parliamentary Elections in the Republic of Moldova: Findings, Recommendations and Proposals Following the Outcomes of the Monitoring”.
