IPA CIS international observers arrive in Baku

Members of the IPA CIS mission of international observers are arriving in the capital of Azerbaijan to monitor set-up and hosting of the general elections (referendum) on the amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Vice Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov was appointed Head of the Mission. The mission includes 22 observers: MPs and representatives of supreme authorities from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Russia, and Tajikistan, as well as IPA CIS Secretariat staff members and IIMDP IPA CIS experts.

The short-term monitoring effort is expected to feature meeting with leaders of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, representatives of the communities of practice involved in campaigning in the run-up to the referendum.

On the E-Day the IPA CIS international observers will monitor the election process in accordance with individual routes in Baku and Sumgait, as well as in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
