IPA CIS Observer Team Starts Short-Term Monitoring of Elections in Uzbekistan

Members of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Observer Team arrived in Tashkent and started short-term monitoring of the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan scheduled for 22 December 2019.

The observers from among the MPs of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as the IPA CIS Council Secretariat staff members held several meetings with the stakeholders of the electoral process.

The observers visited the 141st district election commission of Tashkent, where they got acquainted with the organization of the electoral process, the main requirements to the election commissions and the organization of the situation center.

During the meeting with Chairman of the Central Council of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Vafayev, the observers were informed on the principles of nominating candidates. The party representatives responded to the questions of the observers concerning the recall of deputies and stated the absence of complaints during the electoral campaign.

During the meeting at the office of the Democratic Party of Uzbekistan “Milliy Tiklanish”, Deputy Chairperson of its Central Council Feruza Mukhamedzhanova noted several interesting features of the current electoral campaign, such as active promotional activities, intriguing billboards, distribution of promotional materials, work with youth, party programs printed in in Braille for visually impaired voters.
