IPA CIS observers continued short-term monitoring of the elections in St. Petersburg

The IPA CIS Observer Team met with Co-Chair of St. Petersburg electoral office of the presidential candidate Vladimir Putin, Chief of Hospital for war veterans Maksim Kabanov. He focused on the health-related activity of the office and noted that the office had received more than 3500 citizens’ healthcare-related applications related. He also added that one of the Co-Chairs of the office responsible for the youth policy was in charge of the electoral activities among the students and youth.

The IPA CIS observers also met with Vice Governor of St. Petersburg, Coordinator of Pre-Election Activities of St. Petersburg Executive Bodies Konstantin Serov. During the meeting he focused on the matters of technical upgrade of the polling stations, the work of the election commissions and providing uninterrupted power supply and security at the polling stations. On the election day the public transport will run in workday regime, social services will provide transport for people who need assistance for visiting a polling station.

The observers also visited the St. Petersburg electoral office of Pavel Grudinin and met with Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, First Secretary of the St.Petersburg office of the party Olga Khodunova.

They also met with Chair of the Election Commission Viktor Pankevich who informed them on the establishment of the temporary polling stations including those at the airport and railway stations.

In the afternoon the Observer Team visited the Gatchina district of the Leningrad region and met with Chair of the Council of Deputies, Head of Gatchina Municipal District Andrey Ilyin, Deputy Head of the Administration of Gatchina municipal district on domestic policy Sergey Golovanov and Chair of territorial election commission of the Gatchina district Irina Smyk. Irina Smyk told the observers about the voting process for the people working at the companies of the round-the-clock cycle. She said that at 14 polling stations the voting would start one hour earlier, at 7 a.m.

As was the case at all the meetings Representative of Team Coordinator, Member of the Committee of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Economic Policy, Innovation Development and Entrepreneurship Edil Mamytbekov spoke about the activity of the IPA CIS Observer Team during the long-term monitoring and the plans of work on the election day.
