IPA CIS observers held a series of meetings in Bishkek

Members of the IPA CIS international observer team met with the representatives of the “In favour” agitation group in the margins of the short-term mission to monitor the national referendum on the draft law “On Amendments to the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic” to be held on 11 December.

Alga Kylychkov, Head of the “In favour” agitation group № 4 and its representatives Taalay Usubaliev and Chyngyz Makeshov informed the observers about the amendments put to the referendum, as well as their public outreach efforts. The agitation group representatives also expressed confidence that adoption of the amendments to the Constitution would contribute to sustainable development of the country and strengthening of freedoms and rights of the citizens.

The IPA CIS international observers held a meeting with Nurzhan Shayldabekova, President of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Eduard Sharmazanov, Coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Team, emphasized that: “The voting system based on the voters` biometric data minimizes risks of violations in the voting process”. He also drew attention of the media to the fact that on 11 December the observer team would monitor the election process not only in Bishkek and Chui area, but also at the foreign polling stations in Baku, Minsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Also, the IPA CIS observers held a meeting with the representatives of the “Contra” agitation group Aibek Buzurmankulov, Mavlyan Askarbekov, Adil Turdukulov and Timur Saralaev. They informed the observers about their agitation efforts and explained their stance on the issue put to the referendum.
