IPA CIS Observers Met with Leadership of Political Parties of Republic of Tajikistan

The IPA CIS Observer Team at the elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by Coordinator, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Inoyatov started short-term monitoring.

Today, the observers met with the leaders of the Democratic and Socialist Parties of the Republic of Tajikistan to discuss the features of the current electoral campaign.

At the meeting with observers, Leader of the Democratic party of the Republic of Tajikistan Saidjafar Usmonzoda told that the party had more than 35 thousand members. The party's election program stresses the need to ensure the growth of budget revenues and increase in the income of the population, create conditions to reduce migrant labour flow from the country.  During the campaigning, the party has actively used the Internet and social networks. In the field of foreign policy, the party is committed to the idea of joining the Eurasian Economic Union and considers the CIS countries as priority partners in the international arena.

In the forthcoming elections, the party has nominated four candidates on party lists (including one woman), as well as eight candidates in majority electoral districts (including four women). Saidjafar Usmonzoda noted that during the election campaign there were no complaints regarding violations of the electoral law from candidates.

At the meeting with the leadership of the Socialist Party of the Republic of Tajikistan, Abdukhalim Gafforov extensively briefed the IPA CIS Observer Team on key aspects of the election program, activities focusing on agricultural development as the basis of the life of the Tajik people and addressing social issues.

Leader of the party Abdukhalim Gafforov noted that the budget revenues were expected to be increased through rational use of natural resources. The light industry also has room for improvement thanks to the new technologies in the processing of cotton crops. Among the other tasks of the party there is fight against corruption and strengthening of law enforcement agencies to ensure the border security. The party promotes gender equality in all aspects of public life, including parliamentary activities.

The IPA CIS Observer Team presented the results of the long-term monitoring of the electoral campaign performed in January and February by the staff members of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IIMDD IPA CIS).

The Observer Team includes the MPs from eight IPA CIS Member Nations: the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the representatives of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, including experts of the IIMDD IPA CIS.
