IPA CIS observers met with Lidiya Yermoshina

Members of the CIS observer mission including the IPA CIS observer team met with Chair of the Central Commission on Elections and Referendums of the Republic of Belarus Lidiya Yermoshina.
Lidiya Yermoshina briefed the observers on the essence of the Belorussian election law governing suffrage rights of citizens. MPs in Belarus are elected on the basis of general, free, equal and direct suffrage rights through a secret majority vote. Person of 21 years of age or older are eligible to run for MP mandates.
She stressed that the CEC accredited more than 800 international observers for the current election.
IPA CIS team coordinator Vladimir Bozhko noted the hospitality and friendly attitude of officials to observers at polling stations. He expressed confidence that the election would be held with a decent quality.
