IPA CIS observers on a short-term mission to monitor the snap elections of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan

The IPA CIS observers started short-term monitoring of the elections of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The observers met with First Deputy Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan Republic Ziyafet Asgarov. He told them about the changes in the electoral legislation introduced by the Milli Majlis. The observers informed the leadership of the Milli Majlis about the results of the long-term monitoring of the preparation for the election.

The observers also visited the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan where they met with the CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov. They were informed about the final stage of the election campaign and the preparation of all structures of the Azerbaijan electoral system for the voting, and the collaboration of the CEC with national and international observers. At the same time Mazahir Panahov drew the attention of the observers to the work done by the CEC and local authorities to create voting conditions for disabled persons.

On the same day, the observers met with Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the candidate for presidency nominated by the United Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan; with Ali Akhmedov, Plenipotentiary Representative of the incumbent President Ilkham Aliev, and Elman Manakhov representing Faraj Guliyev a presidential candidate nominated by Movement of National Revival. During the meetings, the candidates and their representatives spoke about the specifics of their campaigns, and their assessments of the preparations for the elections.
