IPA CIS to host conference, dedicated to development of electoral culture of the Commonwealth youth

On 12 February 2019, the International Conference “Young Voters and Candidates: from the Right to Vote to Right to Be Elected” will take place in the Parliamentary Center in St. Petersburg.

The main organizers of the event will be the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) and the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations (YIPA CIS). The event will be held with the participation of the St. Petersburg Electoral Commission and the Electoral Commission of the Leningrad Oblast.

The main goal of the Conference is to exchange information and practices in the field of legislative support of the elections and referenda with due account of the national context of the IPA CIS member nations, as well as in the field of technologies and methods of work with the youth segment of the electoral field, and best practices of involving youth in the activities of legislative bodies.

The main topics of the speakers – young MPs from national parliaments, regional and local legislative bodies of the IPA CIS member nations, heads of electoral commissions of the CIS, leaders of the youth public organizations, researchers from leading universities, experts, political scientists and media representatives – will focus on the development of legal and electoral culture of youth, drawing the attention of young electorate to regional and municipal elections, building civil responsibility among young people, attracting the interest of the young electorate to the issues of the state government, analysis of modern challenges and threats adversely affecting youth participation in the electoral process.

Students of St. Petersburg universities are also invited to participate in the event.
