Russian elections through the eyes of international observers

IPA CIS is a regular host of conference events for European and CIS parliamentarians to discuss common issues related to election monitoring. Over the recent years, the CIS member nations not only owned up to their commitments in terms of democratic election regulation and practices, but also went a long way in arriving at a common vision of political principles and universal election standards. One such outstanding example is the CIS Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms adopted in Kishinev in October 2002 by eight CIS counties. The Parties to the Convention agreed to the presence of international observers during elections, set out their status and prerogatives thereby conferring legitimacy to this democratic institution, - said Andrey Baranov, Deputy Director of the IPA CIS IIMDD.
