Short-term monitoring of elections of members of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan started in Astana

IPA CIS observers started their short-term monitoring mission at the elections to the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

An organizational meeting of the IPA CIS team of international observers was held in Astana. The meeting was opened by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Khalel Bakenov. Coordinator of the Observer Team, Deputy Speaker of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov informed the participants about the features of election process and the composition of the Observer Team.

Director of the IIMDD IPA CIS Dmitry Gladey spoke about the procedure for voting on the voting day in Astana (the capital of Kazakhstan). Head of the IIMDD IPA CIS expert group Roman Amburtsev presented the results of the work of the IPA CIS Expert Group on Long-Term Monitoring.

The IPA CIS team includes 13 international observers representing six Member Nations of the IPA CIS, including MPs, representatives of the supreme legislative authorities, as well as IPA CIS Council Secretariat staff members.
