The CIS observers call the elections in the Republic of Armenia open and transparent

A press-conference of the IPA CIS Observers Mission on the outcomes of the monitoring of the elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia took place in Yerevan.

The head of the CIS Observer Team Sergei Lebedev concluded: “The elections on 2 April were held in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Code and, generally, complied with the democratic standards of elections. We found that they had been held on a multiparty and competitive basis, were free, transparent and open”.

The IPA CIS Observers Team Coordinator, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk noted that the legislative framework of Armenia and the Electoral Code was quite progressive. “Our Armenian colleagues have moved very far ahead”, he added. The coordinator also stated that all the necessary conditions had been created for political forces and voters.

The IPA CIS Council Secretary General Alexey Sergeev added that during the whole elections day not a single significant concern had been expressed by the political forces participating in the parliamentary elections, though already on Saturday, they exchanged contact details during the meetings with representatives of these forces. “All this confirms the assessment of the elections by our Observer Team”, said Alexey Sergeev.
