Expert Advisory Board on Culture to Be Established at CIS Interparliamentary Assembly

On 18 May 2023, a meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the headquarters of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
The meeting was presided by Chair of the Commission, Chair of the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Science, Education, Culture and Sport Erkin Zakhidov.
Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy addressed the members of the Commission and noted the relevance of the draft documents submitted for discussion. He presented the Assembly’s awards to the members and experts of the Permanent Commission.
The parliamentarians discussed the draft revised Model Code of Intellectual Property for Member Nations of the CIS presented by Vice-Rector of the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property Alexander Larin.
The participants were also briefed on the draft analysis of promising areas of model law-making in the field of digital development of culture, tourism and sports, including the work on the draft Model Law on Electronic Communications in Digital Media Resources, the revised Model Law on Benevolence and Sponsorship and the draft Model Law on Television and Radio Broadcasting.
The Commission approved the proposal of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic to award Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic of the Kyrgyz Republic, Honored Scientist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Doctor of Philology, Professor Abdyldajan Akmataliev the 2023 Chingiz Aitmatov Prize.
The members of the Commission also voted for the establishment of the Expert Advisory Board on Culture at the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
The parliamentarians were informed on the International Conference “Russian Language as the Basis for Integration Dialogue in the CIS Region” scheduled for 26-27 October 2023.
The meeting was attended by MPs and experts from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, representatives of relevant agencies, staff members of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat.
