Experts Discussed Draft Model Laws in Legal Field

Today a meeting of the Expert Advisory Board at the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Legal Issues was held in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the headquarters of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
The event brought together specialists and experts from the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the developers of draft model laws and the IPA CIS Council Secretariat staff members. The meeting was chaired by Chair of the Expert Advisory Board, judge of the 1st Western District Military Court, Member of the Council of the St. Petersburg Regional Branch of the “Russian Association of Judges” Yury Kozlov.
The meeting participants continued their work on the draft Model Laws on Treaty Law (General Provisions), on Funds and on Consumer Protection (revised).
Model Law on Funds is aimed at establishing a systematic and comprehensive legal regulation concerning various types of funds – charitable, lifetime private (personal) and inheritance ones.
The revised Model Law on Consumer Protection is designed to provide a balanced approach to terms in the field of e-commerce, principles and basic rules, conflict-of-laws rules on cross-border e-commerce, ensuring the effectiveness of consumer protection across the CIS.
The meeting participants considered the texts of the draft model laws submitted by the developers, worked out a number of proposals and comments, as well as made editorial changes. Following the discussions, the members of the Expert Advisory Board decided to amend the draft model laws taking into account the comments made and to continue discussing the documents at the next meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Legal Issues, scheduled for 28 October 2021.
