Commonwealth Experts Discussed Issues of Ecology Cooperation

On 30 August 2021, the seventh meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on Ecology took place via videoconferencing.

The event was attended by representatives of the environmental agencies of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the Executive Committee of the CIS and the Executive Committee of the CIS Electric Power Generation Board.

The IPA CIS Council Secretariat was represented at the meeting by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva.

The event began with an organizational issue: Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Magzum Myrzagaliev was elected as the Chairperson of the CIS Advisory Board on the Environment.

Furthermore, the meeting considered nine issues aimed at increasing the effectiveness of cooperation in the field of ecology, environmental protection, as well as in the field of combating global climate change.

In addition, the meeting participants were greatly interested in the speech of Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Korbut. The Deputy Minister informed the meeting participants about the experience of the Republic of Belarus in the systematic transition from the use of polymer packaging to the use of environmentally friendly packaging.

The experience of the Emissions Trading System for the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) of Kazakhstan was also presented at the meeting.

In addition, the Council members exchanged experience in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the Field of Environmental Protection in the CIS and considered issues of cooperation in the development of fish farming (aquaculture).
