IPA CIS Activities in Sphere of Strengthening Security at External Borders Discussed in Minsk

An international research-to-practice conference concerning the problems of legal regulation of interaction between the border agencies of the CIS countries in the field of countering cross-border crime was held today in Minsk.

The research meeting was held under the auspices of the CIS Joint Chiefs of Border Guards.

It was attended by the leadership of the CIS Joint Chiefs of Border Guards, the State Secretariat of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus and the Border Guard Service Institute of Belarus, representatives of border agencies, universities and research organizations of the CIS countries, as well as the regional counter terrorism structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was represented at the conference by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security issues Alexander Borisov.

During the conference, suggestions were made that will be taken into account by the developer when preparing draft Recommendations on Improving the Legislation of CIS Member States in the Sphere of Countering Trans-Border Crime at External Borders.

The participants of the meeting discussed a wide range of topics that reveal problematic issues and ways of countering cross-border crime. Special attention was paid to the training of subject matter experts and research activities in the interests of strengthening border security at the external borders of the CIS.
