MPs and Experts Discussed Issues of Harmonization of CIS Legislation in Field of Security

Today, the regular meeting of the Joint Commission at the IPA CIS for the Harmonization of National Laws Related to Security, Countering Emerging Threats and Challenges took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the headquarters of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. Deputy Chair of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Defense Viktor Zavarzin chaired the meeting.

The meeting was attended by members of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues, representatives of the CIS statutory bodies and bodies of sectoral cooperation, public authorities, educational and academic institutions and international organizations.

The meeting considered the draft model laws on Public Security (developed by the working group of the Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center) and on Unified Emergency Call Handling System (presented by Saint-Petersburg University of State Fire Service of Emercom of Russia).

The participants were briefed on the activities of the CIS Joint Chiefs of Border Guards on implementation of the Program of Cooperation of the CIS Member Nations for Strengthening Security along the External Borders for 2021-2025 in the field of model law-making.

The IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues also considered the proposals of amending the Long-Term Plan of Model Law-Making of the CIS for 2020-2022.
