Russian Senators Took Part in International Discussion on Climate Change Impacts on Agriculture

The heads of the relevant committees of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the German Bundestag held an international expert discussion “Climate Change ­– Global Challenges for Agricultural Policy Based on the Principles of Sustainable Development”.

The meeting was attended by Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Alexei Mayorov, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management, Deputy Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Sergey Belousov, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Yelena Zlenko, Chair of the German Bundestag Committee on Food and Agriculture Alois Gerig, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva, representatives of the relevant ministries and departments, scientific institutions, experts from Russia and Germany.

During the meeting, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Alexei Mayorov said that the reduced agricultural yields in the context of climate change in some regions of the world had a significant impact on the formation of food prices and the level of food consumption, which had a negative impact on the degree of food security in the world. Alexey Mayorov noted that over the past 10 years, Russia had ensured a steady growth of the industry.

Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management, Deputy Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Sergey Belousov drew attention to the fact that in current circumstances the agriculture faces serious tasks of ensuring food security while simultaneously preserving biological resources.

The meeting participants from Russia invited their German colleagues to take part in the 9th Nevsky International Ecological Congress, which will be held on 27-28 May 2021 in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.
