CIS experts discussed HIV/AIDS legislation

The meeting of the working group on reviewing progress of HIV/AIDS legislation and migration in the CIS countries took place in the Tavrichesky Palace — IPA CIS HQ.

The experts discussed the legislation regulating legal relations in the field of HIV/AIDS in the CIS, as well as the provision of treatment for HIV-positive people and the development of mechanisms for citizens of the CIS countries and migrants to receive the necessary medical care.

The participants agreed that the adoption of the Model Law on Combating HIV/AIDS in the CIS Member Nations was a necessary measure.

The provision of medical care in the Commonwealth countries is regulated by the Agreement on the Provision of Medical Care to the CIS Citizens signed on 27 March 1997. The Draft Concept of the Model Law on Combating HIV / AIDS in the CIS Member Nations was developed by the IPA CIS, UNDP, UNAIDS and the Alliance of Mayors and Municipal Leaders on HIV/AIDS.

The concept was approved at the IPA CIS plenary session on 31 October 2007. The document outlines the main directions of the provision of state guarantees to all population categories , including refugees, internally displaced and stateless persons.
