CIS experts discussed medical tourism development

The meeting of the IPA CIS Board of Experts on Public Health took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace.

The meeting brought together representatives of relevant ministries and departments of the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, deans and rectors of leading medical departments and universities, heads of medical organizations, hospitals, clinics and medical associations, scientists, experts as well as experts from the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for Europe.

The meeting discussed the development of medical tourism in the CIS countries. The meeting participants discussed the problems of medical tourism development around the world and in the CIS region: increasing health care commercialization, the wide difference in the prices of medical tourism, underdevelopment of international medical insurance and other pressing issues.

The meeting participants also discussed global healthcare trends, export of medical services in the CIS countries and a few more specific issues. For example, foreign participants showed interest in the Board of Experts meeting in terms of initiating a dialogue on the issue of providing medical services for HIV carriers.

The meeting discussed amendments to the CIS Long-term Plan of Model Law-making for 2020–2024. The experts decided to ask the IPA CIS PC on Social Policy and Human Rights to introduce the ML On CIS Clinical Recommendations of Medical Care into the Plan.
