MPs and Experts discussed Issues of Sustainable Development of Rural Areas

A round table “Sustainable Development of Rural Areas” was held at the Tavricheskiy Palace within the autumn session of the IPA CIS. The event was co-organized by two IPA CIS Permanent Commissions: PC on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology and PC on Practices of State-Building and Local Government, as well as the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations (YIPA CIS).

The meeting was attended by the MPs from across the CIS, the representatives of regional and local authorities, the officials of educational and research centers, the leaders of youth public organizations.

Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology, Chair of the Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova for Agriculture and Food Industry Radu Mudreac, Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission Practices of State-Building and Local Government, Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on State Building, Local Government and Regulations Leonid Tsuprik and Coordinator of the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations, Member of the Committee of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan for Science, Education, Culture and Youth Policy Kiyomiddin Miraliyon co-chaired the meeting.

The key objectives of the meeting were to discuss the sustainable development of rural areas and legislative aspects of this issue, to exchange information and experience of successful strategies and programs for rural areas development, involving youth in the countryside, promotion of rural lifestyle and achievements in development of such territories.

Based on the results of the discussion, members of the meeting came up with recommendations addressed to the IPA CIS, legislative and executive authorities of the CIS countries.

Within the working schedule, participants of the round table visited Federal Research Center “N. I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources” and got acquainted with its unique collection, the oldest Russian Scientific Agricultural Library and the exhibition on the Siege period of Institute’s work.
