Number of Bilateral Meetings Took Place on Margins of IPA CIS Autumn Session

Today, on the margins of the IPA CIS autumn session, a number of bilateral meetings of MPs and representatives of international organizations took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko held a meeting with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Sahiba Gafarova. The parties discussed the development of bilateral relations and strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation within international platforms.

The parties noted the important role of the IPA CIS, which will celebrate its 30^th anniversary next year, stressing that the platform provided the opportunities for developing cooperation in a multilateral format, holding international forums, including the Eurasian Women’s Forum, and the Nevsky International Ecological Congress, as well as for developing model legislation.

During the meeting of Valentina Matvienko with the Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva, the parties also discussed the issues of bilateral and multilateral inter-parliamentary interaction. The Speakers also commended the outcomes of the sixth meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held in Tashkent.

In addition, Valentina Matvienko met with Head of the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization Hans Kluge. The Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council emphasized that Russia consistently supported the WHO and stood for the preservation of the leading role of that organization in international cooperation in the field of health.

The meetings were also attended by Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy.

On the same day, the CIS MPs met with representatives of international organizations: Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Sahiba Gafarova and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan met with Regional Director for Europe of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Birgitte Bischoff Ebbessen, and Sahiba Gafarova met with Hans Kluge.
