Registration for International Forum “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories” Opened

Registration for participants of the Second International Forum “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories” has been opened. The event will be held on 1-3 October in Dagestan (Russian Federation) and will bring together representatives of authorities, academia and experts from the Commonwealth countries.

This year the main topic will be the role of municipalities in making environmentally significant decisions in the field of sustainable development of mountain territories. The aim is to propose local-level adaptation mechanisms to climatic and socio-economic changes.
The following issues will be discussed at the forum:
- How to find a balance between conserving biological diversity and sustainably managing natural resources?
- How to improve the well-being of mountain populations?
- What measures are needed to help mountain areas to adapt to climate change?
- How do municipalities monitor the state of the environment?
- How to find an optimal balance between traditional and innovative mining methods?
- How to preserve forests in mountainous areas while forest resources are managed in a rational way?
- How can public awareness be raised and young people encouraged to become active participants in the conservation and development of mountain areas?
- What Model Laws in the field of sustainable mountain development are used in the national legislation of the CIS countries?
The Forum is organized by the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Republic of Dagestan, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.
The Forum’s partners include the CIS Executive Committee, MGIMO University, Nataliya Thornquist’s charitable foundation “Nature’s Revival” and the Union of Russian Cities.
