CIS Interparliamentary Assembly turns 26 years

This day, 26 years ago, the Agreement on the establishment of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States was signed in the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty.

In May 1995, the CIS Heads of State signed the Convention on the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, a fundamental document, regulating the activity of the Assembly and granting it the status of intergovernmental body.

Since 2012, the CIS regularly informs the Council of the CIS Heads of State on the Assembly’s activities. Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko regularly participates in the meetings of the Council.

Over 26 years the IPA CIS has adopted more than 500 model laws and other documents. The monitoring shows the CIS member parliaments actively use these documents in their work.
