Congratulation by Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko on the International Day of Parliamentarism

Dear colleagues,

May I congratulate you on the International Day of Parliamentarism!

Established on 22 May 2018 by the United Nations upon the initiative of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, it has a great importance for the development of the world institute of parliamentarism, preserving and augmentation of the best parliamentary traditions. For the first time all those who ensure a lawmaking process, who are committed to the rules of democracy, will celebrate this important date. This day in 1889 the first international conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, nowadays the largest association of parliamentarians from 178 states, opened in Paris.

Today parliamentary diplomacy effectively provides for tackling the most relevant international and regional issues, strengthening interaction of parliamentarians from different countries in search of solutions for modern challenges and threats. We need to do everything possible to popularize the activities of legislative (representative) authorities, aimed at upholding the interests of civil society, elaboration of a jointly developed model legislation that allows countries to implement their social, economic and cultural potential.

I wish everyone new successes and achievements for the benefit of our Fatherland, peace and good!
