International Forum on the Development of Parliamentarism takes place in Moscow

The International Forum Development of Parliamentarism brought together representatives from 96 countries.

MPs and experts will work at the thematic sessions within the two-day program dedicated to the legal framework of the world economy in the 21st century, promotion of international security and improvement of national legislation.

Member of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin opened the forum and stated that the role of Parliamentarism had increased in today’s environment of crisis of international law and global security.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov delivered the welcome address of Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

Member of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ara Babloyan called for joining efforts of parliaments in ensuring stability in the world and counter emerging threats and challenges such as terrorism, extremism, intolerance, xenophobia and illegal migration through open and constructive dialogue and multi-lateral mechanism of consultations and concerted actions.

The Forum brought together 58 parliamentary delegations, 19 of which are led by the speakers of parliaments. The representatives of 11 international parliamentary organizations including the OSCE PA, the IPA CIS, the CSTO PA, the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and the Central American Parliament.

On behalf of the IPA CIS the forum was attended by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to the IPA CIS Irina Sokolova.
