Federal Assembly marked the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution

Bolshoi was the venue for a solemn meeting of the two chambers of the Federal Assembly, the Russian parliament, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution. Speaking at the meeting, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council and Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko said that for the first time in history, human rights and freedoms together with fundamental freedoms were laid out in a constitutional instrument. Over the last 20 years, the Federal Assembly has done a tremendous amount of legislative work leading to the emergence of a coherent legal framework. This is still very much work in progress. The value of the constitution is in its huge growth potential.
