Heads of CIS parliaments hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the IPA CIS autumn session

Today in the Tavrichesky Palace heads of national parliaments of the CIS countries held bilateral meetings with their colleagues taking part in the IPA CIS autumn session.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko met with Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokaev. The parties particularly focused on the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation. IPA CIS Council Chairperson commended the bi-lateral cooperation in the framework of the IPA CIS and the PA CSTO, as well as on the IPU platform. Valentina Matvienko invited Kazakhstan MPs to contribute in the preparation of the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in St. Petersburg in October 2017.

IPA CIS Council Chairperson also held meetings with Speaker of the Council of Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovitch, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrghyz Republic Chynybai Tursunbekov, Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Oktay Asadov and Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hermine Naghdalyan.

A range of bilateral meetings was also held between Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Oktay Asadov and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrghyz Republic Chynybai Tursunbekov, Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Oktay Asadov and Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin, Speaker of the Council of Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovitch and Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Zhomart Tokaev and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrghyz Republic Chynybai Tursunbekov, Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin and Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin. During the day Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrghyz Republic Chynybai Tursunbekov met with Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. All the meetings featured discussions of different areas of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Alexey Sergeev met with the heads of partner parliamentary assemblies such as the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC).

Conversation with President Emeritus of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, Head of the Italian delegation in the PAM Francesco Maria Amoruso and the Secretary General of the PAM Sergio Piazzi took place just after the signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the IPA CIS and the PAM. The parties stated the important role of this document which should develop cooperation between the assemblies. In this regard, they paid great attention to working together on such an important topic as countering international terrorism. The Secretary General of the PAM Sergio Piazzi expressed willingness to offer an active input in the inter-parliamentary conference on that issue to be held in St. Petersburg next spring.

At the meeting with PABSEC Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev the parties focused on cooperation in various areas, including fighting terrorism. "Recently the development of cooperation between has seen a strong momentum", said Asaf Hajiyev. He also confirmed his intention to participate in the events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly on 27 and 28 March next year.
