IPA CIS and PAM signed a Memorandum of Understanding

The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean signed a Memorandum of Understanding in St. Petersburg, Tavrichesky Palace.
The document sets out the benefits of interparliamentary cooperation based on reaffirming the necessity to respect human rights and freedoms, social justice, promotion of democracy and rule of law.
The Memorandum was signed by Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko and President Emeritus of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Francesco Maria Amoruso.
Valentina Matvienko noted the importance of the Memorandum for further development of partnership between the IPA CIS and the PAM. “This is an important step in strengthening cooperation between our parliamentary organizations and their secretariats”, she said. Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council expressed confidence that the engagement of the IPA CIS and the PAM would contribute to the development of cooperation between countries and parliaments of their regions.
Francesco Maria Amoroso stressed that parliamentarians had been granted the opportunity to discuss common regional problems more openly. He stated that the cooperation between the IPA CIS and the PAM would help solve the issues ahead.
