IPA CIS Council meeting took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace

The meeting of the IPA CIS Council was presided by Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

The central event of the meeting of the IPA CIS Council was the signing by the Republic of Uzbekistan of the Convention on the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev informed the participants on the decisions of the CIS Council of the Heads of State of 28 September 2018 and the CIS Council of Heads of Government of 2 November 2018.

Valentina Matvienko stressed the importance of shaping the IPA CIS agenda with due account of the decisions of the Council of the CIS Heads of State. She stressed that the CIS Convention on Cooperation in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, drafted by the IPA CIS, was signed by at the meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State..

The members of the IPA CIS Council were briefed on the chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2018.

The IPA CIS Observer Team coordinator, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Iliyas Umakhanov and the IIMDD IPA CIS Director Dmitry Gladei informed the participants on the organization of election monitoring in the CIS member states, on the participation of IPA CIS international observers in the monitoring of the early presidential elections of the Azerbaijan Republic and on the preparedness of the IPA CIS international observers to participate in the monitoring of the early elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

Iliyas Umakhanov also informed the participants on the results of the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum, emphasizing its importance. The forum was attended by about 2 000 delegates from 110 countries and 27 international organizations.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Economy and Finance Hermine Naghdalyan proposed establishment of the IPA CIS Board of Experts on Economy.
