IPA CIS remembers the victims of the Blockade of Leningrad

Braving the bitter cold, residents of SPB came by the thousand to the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery this Sunday to remember the victims of the Blockade. The commemorative ceremony began at 11 a.m. Streams of visitors slowly marched in a solemn procession to lay wreaths and flowers at the graves of hundreds of thousands of victims of the embattled city. The Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko travelled from Moscow to personally take part in the solemn ceremony. She was accompanied by the IPA CIS SG Alexey Sergeev and a delegation of IPA CIS officials and staff. The delegation laid wreaths at the foot of the monument The Mourning Nation.

Every year on 27 January the city remembers the victims of the Blockade in a solemn ceremony at the Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery. The Blockade claimed in excess of one million human souls who did not make it to see the joy of Victory.
