Meeting of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace

Meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace. Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Oktay Asadov, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ara Babloyan, Speaker of the Council of Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovitch, Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk, Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sergey Gromov, Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrghyz Republic Chynybai Tursunbekov, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, Speaker of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Makhmadsaid Ubaidulloev, and Secretary General of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States Alexey Sergeev participated in the meeting.
Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko greeted the participants of the meeting and informed them about the decisions of the CIS Council of Heads of State adopted on 11 October 2017 in Sochi.
Members of the IPA CIS Council adopted a statement On Inadmissibility of the Justification of Nazism and of the Desecration of Memory of the Anti-Hitler Coalition Soldiers.
Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrghyz Republic Chynybai Tursunbekov presented the results of the 5th international cultural and educational forum Children of the Commonwealth.
The participants of the meeting discussed a range of reports on election observation in the CIS Member States in 2017, particularly observation of elections to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and to the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as on the status of preparing observation missions at the presidential elections in the Kyrghyz Republic and to public authorities in the CIS countries in 2018.
Members of the IPA CIS Council also discussed the creation of the Expert Council on the Economy, the chairmanship of the Russian Federation in the CIS, organizational issues, and the IPA CIS work plan for 2018.
On 14–18 October 2017 the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held in the Tavrichesky Palace, headquarters of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. Vice President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Deputy Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation, Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev informed the participants about the agenda of the 137th IPU Assembly.
As 2017 is the year of the 25th anniversary of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, Valentina Matvienko awarded Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin and Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin with the Medals on the 25th Anniversary of the IPA CIS. Nurlan Nigmatulin also received the Medal for the Strengthening of Parliamentary Cooperation.
