Valentina Matvienko: "The 137th IPU Assembly will make a significant input in the development of the global inter-parliamentary dialogue"

The IPU Executive Committee held its regular meeting within the 137th IPU Assembly at the IPA CIS HQ in the Tavricheskiy Palace.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation  Valentina Matvienko welcomed the members of the IPU Executive Committee and wished everyone productive work with and fruitful results.

Head of the IPA CIS delegation at the 137th IPU Assembly Valentina Matvienko expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Inter-Parliamentary Union for supporting the initiative of the Russian Federation to hold the 137th Assembly in St. Petersburg and for the constructive interaction at all stages of the preparation of the session.

"We tried to provide the conditions for effective work and fulfilled our obligations and guarantees in in enabling all parliamentarians without exception to attend the Assembly," stressed the IPA CIS Council Chairperson .

According to Valentina Matvienko, the Tavricheskiy Palace can be called the true cradle of Russian parliamentarianism: in 1906 the first parliament of the Russian Empire deliberated in this building. "I am sure that in this special place the work will be held in a business-like and constructive manner, and the 137th IPU Assembly in St. Petersburg will make a significant input in the development of the global inter-parliamentary dialogue," she said.
