The ceremony of farewell with Daniil Granin took place in Tavricheskiy Palace

On 8 July, The ceremony of farewell with the writer, Hero of Socialist Labor, recipient of the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle the First-Called and honorary citizen of Saint-Petersburg took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace.

Among the participants of the funeral ceremony were the Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Presidential Plenipotentiary in the Northwestern Federal District Nikolai Tsukanov, Governor of St.Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of  St.Petersburg Vyacheslav Makarov, Secretary General of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Aleksey Sergeev, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Irina Sokolova and honorable people of Saint-Petersburg.

“Daniil Granin’s death is an irreplaceable loss not only for Petersburg. His life was long and dignified. Daniil Granin was an example of spirituality and morality, he was a person who loved people, loved his Motherland. He was conscientious person who never was afraid to tell the truth and to say what he thinks", Valentina Matvienko addressed to the audience.

The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, politicians and cultural figures expressed their condolences via telegrams.

The writer will be buried at Komarovo cemetery.

On 4 July, Daniil Granin has died in St. Petersburg at the age of 98.
