The State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the seventh convocation started its work

In accordance with the article 99 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the first plenary session was opened by the oldest Member of the State Duma of the seventh convocation. This time, Zhores Alferov, the representative of the Communist Party, the Nobel Prize Winner in physics, accomplished this honorable mission.

Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, participated in the plenary session and congratulated the members of the State Duma of the seventh convocation with the beginning of their activities. In his speech he noted that the State Duma of the seventh convocation represents all 85 federation entities.

Heads of federal authorities, members of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, members of the Federal Assembly’s Council of Legislators, representatives of inter-parliamentary and inter-state organizations in the Commonwealth of Independent States, and representatives of public associations attended the plenary session as invited guests.

Having approved the agenda, the Duma members formed the provisional institutions the chamber needed to start working: Counting Commission of the State Duma, Temporary Commission on regulation and organization of work of the State Duma, Temporary Secretariat of the State Duma.

Vyacheslav Volodin was elected the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation of the seventh convocation by open alternative voting. In his first speech in this role he said: "The State Duma must be a place for a discussion, for a dialogue".
