Valentina Matvienko and Kassym-Jomart Tokaev discussed prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation within the IPA CIS

A meeting of Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokaev took place in Moscow.

The meeting took place within the framework of the official visit of Kassym-Jomart Tokaev to the Russian Federation, where he arrived on 3 April on the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. This is the first foreign visit of the new head of the Republic of Kazakhstan since the assumption of office on 20 April. Previously, Kassym-Jomart Tokaev held the office of the Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and led the delegation of the Senate to the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

Valentina Matvienko thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokaev for his contribution to the bilateral and multilateral cooperation within the framework of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and noted that both the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan put big efforts in harmonizing the Commonwealth legislation.

The parties also discussed the upcoming regular IPA CIS plenary session and other events of the spring session in St. Petersburg on 18–19 April to be attended by Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbaeva.
