Valentina Matvienko:

Message from IPA CIS Council Chairperson, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945:

                           Dear friends!

The beginning of the Great Patriotic War instantly changed millions of human destinies. 78 years ago, the worst War came to every house, to every family. It left in the hearts of millions of people the bitterness of the loss of loved ones forever. But the common tragedy did not break, but united our people.

Peoples` fortitude, courage and bravery of soldiers and officers, the heroic labor of all who stayed in the rear, helped to survive and defeat the cruel enemy. Soviet people defended their homeland, saved the world from fascism by the cost of great losses.

Today the words "no one has been forgotten and nothing has been forgotten!" sound with a new force. Their modern confirmation was the international social movement "Immortal Regiment", which extended many countries. The memory of those who died at the front and in the rear for the Great Victory, the memory about their feat for the freedom of the Motherland is carefully passed from generation to generation. Our duty is to preserve the historical truth about the events of those years, to bring up children and young people as true patriots.

Eternal memory and glory to the defenders of the Motherland!
