Valentina Matvienko’s address at 133 Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union

IPA CIS Council Chairperson, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko gave the opening address at the Interparliamentary Union Assembly. The theme of the general debate was The moral and economic imperative for fairer smarter and more human migration.

The Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council emphasized the importance and relevance of the subject. Valentina Matvienko touched upon the migration outbreak in Europe and consequent measures of migration policy tightening.

The Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, the Speaker of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation emphasized the issue of refugees in Europe was an issue for the global community and it required common approaches based on principles of humanity and reasonable balance of human and national security interests.

Valentina Matvienko noted that the IPA CIS played an important role in developing migration laws.

Valentina Matvienko confirmed that she was ready to join her efforts with all the partners and noted that the sanctions imposed on parliamentarians twist the essence of parliamentarism. According to Valentina Matvienko ‘the role of parliamentarians is objectively growing. Today global issues can be resolved only with extensive participation of international parliamentary institutions’.
