“Today we are remembering one of the most tragic and heroic pages in the history of our country and those people who, in the grimmest days, showed the whole world the power of spirit paying the dreadful price with their lives and health. The people of Leningrad did not give up facing the terrible siege conditions and continued to live, work and fight.

The Day of complete liberation of Leningrad from the Siege was and remains for us a symbol of courage and perseverance. Years after the hard war time, the significance of this great feat becomes more complete and vivid”, said Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko in her official address to the Governor and citizens of St. Petersburg.
