47 PABSEC General Assembly in Moscow

Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation has opened its 47 General Assembly in the Russian capital. The Assembly will be taking place on 29 and 30 June. Its cross-cutting theme is Through Economic Cooperation to Peace, Stability and Prosperity in the BSEC Region.

In his message to the participants of the 47 PABSEC General Assembly, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin expressed confidence "that the measures you had defined to extend mutually beneficial cooperation within PABSEC to establish contacts with your colleagues from the IPA CIA will facilitate the strengthening of stability, security and good-neighborliness in Black Sea region.

President of PABSEC, Speaker of the State Douma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin noted that "parliamentary dimension holds a prominent stake in the BSEC, enabling assessment of regional developments and, on top of that, facilitating regional cooperation through the efforts of legislators".

IPA CIS Council Secretary General took part in the Assembly. In his speech at the opening of the plenary session, he noted that "our organizations have a long relationship record. IPA CIS and PABSEC are maintaining continuous contacts, based on the Protocol of Cooperation made 18 years ago". Alexey Sergeev also shared on a few initiatives to develop the engagement of the two assemblies, including the proposal to sign a cooperation agreement as soon as possible. The new agreement would reaffirm the principles fixed in the previous document of 1998, as well as extend and specify the lines of this cooperation.
