Cooperation Among Central Asian Countries in Fight Against Terrorism Discussed at International Conference in Tashkent

On 4-5 March 2022, the High Level International Conference “Regional Cooperation of Central Asian Countries Within the Framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy”.

Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation Maksimillian Selyutin and Secretary of the Joint Commission at the IPA CIS for the Harmonization of National Laws Related to Security, Countering Emerging Threats and Challenges Stanislav Korostelyov took part in the event on behalf of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat via videoconferencing.

The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies (ISRS) under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The Conference discussed the trends and prospects of cooperation in the field of combating terrorism, the exchange of practical experience in the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia and in the world, the exchange of views on a number of issues related to the process of countering terrorism.

As a result of the discussions, the Tashkent Declaration was adopted, confirming the commitment of the Central Asian States to further strengthen cooperation within the framework of the newly updated JPoA.
