IPA CIS Delegation Participated in 148th IPU Assembly

On 23 March a bilateral meeting between the delegation of the IPA CIS and Secretary General of the IPU Martin Chungong was held on the margins of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva.
During the meeting, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted, that in the conductions of the changing geopolitical situation, new directions are being actualised and expressed confidence that IPA CIS and IPU could develop further cooperation on a systematic basis.
Martin Chungong expressed his condolences in connection with the tragic events in Crocus City Hall in Moscow and proposed to combine the efforts of the two assemblies in countering international terrorism in any of its manifestations.
On 24 March the 148th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union began its work in Geneva.
The IPA CIS is represented at the Assembly by Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Legal Issues, deputy of Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of Republic of Tajikistan Ravshan Radzhabzoda and Dmitriy Kobitskiy.
Before the beginning of the plenary session participants observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of terrorist acts. The first speech of the general debate expressed condolences to the victims of the terrorist attacks, the Russian people and the Russian government.
The general discussion focuses on parliamentary diplomacy, building bridges for peace and mutual understanding. Other topics were “Addressing the social and human consequences of autonomous weapons systems and artificial intelligence” and “Partnership in the fight against climate change: promoting access to affordable green energy and ensuring innovation, responsibility and justice”.
On the margins of the 148th IPU Assembly Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Republic Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alen Simonyan, Speaker of Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Koshanov, Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Gulmanova Dunyagozel, Speaker of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Kamalovna.
Also, Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with representatives of the Russian delegation headed by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.
In addition, the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council had a conversation with Secretary General of the TurkPA Mehmet Sureya Er on the margins of the Assembly.
The 148th IPU Assembly held in Geneva from 23 to 27 March. MPs of the Commonwealth and other countries participate in the discussion and adoption of the final document of the session and resolutions.
