IPA CIS Representatives Took Part in IPU Webinar on Implementation of SDGs During Pandemic

A webinar “Putting the wellbeing of people at the center of the COVID-19 recovery strategies: the critical role of parliaments” was held today via videoconferencing and was co-organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

The event is part of a series of the IPU regional webinars on the implementation the Sustainable Development Goals in a time of the pandemic. In modern conditions, monitoring the implementation of the SDGs at the national and regional levels is becoming increasingly important. The webinar provided an opportunity to exchange views and discuss tangible strategies to increase the participation of parliaments in Voluntary National Review (VNR) process.

IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Olga Algaerova opened the event with welcoming speeches.

The IPA CIS Council Secretariat was represented at the webinar by Secretary of the Permanent Commission of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva and Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Practices of State-Building and Local Government Elena Fominenko.

The webinar program included three segments on the results of the implementation of the SDGs implemented in the region, inclusive economic growth and sustainable development aimed at the post-COVID recovery and best regional practices based on Voluntary National Review.

The webinar was organized in anticipation of the 2022 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development organized by UNECE to review progress on the SDGs at the regional level and brought together members and secretariat staff members of the European parliaments.
