Role of Parliamentary Organisations in Fighting Climate Change Discussed at COP29 Conference in Azerbaijan

On 16-17 November, Baku hosted the Parliamentary Meeting organised by the Interparliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan within the framework of the 29th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29).

More than 95 delegations from national parliaments, inter-parliamentary organisations and international organisations took part in the meeting.

At the opening ceremony, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Tulia Exon, Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva, Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda and Secretary General of the IPU Martin Chungong made speeches. 

The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly delegation, including Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aydin Jafarov, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva and Director of the Baku Office of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ramin Rzayev took part in the conference.
