Valentina Matvienko: Nevsky Congress to Be of Interest to Guests from All Over the World

The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation hosted the first meeting of the Organizing Committee of the X Nevsky International Ecological Congress to be held in May 2023 at the IPA CIS headquarters in the Tavricheskiy Palace in St. Petersburg.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko and Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the Russian Federation Viktoria Abramchenko became co-chairs of the Organizing Committee.

Valentina Matvienko noted that through the joint efforts of the Federation Council, the Government of Russia, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the IPA CIS, the Congress had already become a respected international environmental platform.

Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the Russian Federation Viktoria Abramchenko said that the plenary session of the Congress would focus on human influence on ecosystems and human responsibility for the preservation of life on the Earth. She proposed to include issues related to the access to clean water, improving urban air quality, as well as land ecology and waste impact reduction in the business program of the Congress.

The meeting participants discussed the architecture of the business program of the X Nevsky International Ecological Congress, as well as the opportunities of holding environmental events and activities in St. Petersburg and other regions of Russia.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Co-Chairs of the Organizing Committee – First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Andrey Yatskin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy.
