Alexey Sergeev and Francis Gurry agreed on further steps to strengthen cooperation on the protection of intellectual property

IPA CIS Council Secretary General Alexey Sergeev visited the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva and met with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry.

IPA CIS and WIPO have been successfully interacting for 20 years. In 1998, the two organizations signed the Cooperation Memorandum. Several important documents were developed and adopted with the expert support of WIPO, including Recommendations on the Improvement of National Laws on Copyrights of the CIS Member Nations (2000), the revised section V (Intellectual property), part 3 of the model CIS Civil Code (2003), and the revised model law Protection of Copyrights (2005).

During the meeting the parties also decided to bring their cooperation to a new level as well as agreed on practical steps in this direction.
