Alexey Sergeev met with the Secretary General of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly

In the margins of the 137th IPU Assembly the Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Alexey Sergeev met with the delegation of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) led by Secretary General Mohammad Reza Majidi.

The parties discussed cooperation prospects of the two organizations. Alexey Sergeev noted that the CIS and the APA had six shared member parliaments: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Another CIS Member Nation – Turkmenistan – has an observer status at the APA.

The parties decided to bring the relations between the parliamentary organizations to a new level, including through a mutual exchange of observer status. Mohammed Reza Majidi stressed that the IPA CIS could be accorded this status already during the forthcoming meeting of the General Assembly of APA on 20–25 November 2017.
