Alexey Sergeev met with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong

IPA CIS Council SG Alexey Sergeev met with IPU SG Martin Chungong in the Tavrichesky Palace. The parties discussed the outcomes of the 137^th IPU Assembly and outlined the key areas for developing cooperation, including the joint hosting with the IPU of a Regional Seminar on SDGs in 2018.

Alexey Sergeev congratulated the IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong on the impeccable hosting of the 137^th IPU Assembly, the most representative gathering in the history of the organization, and, on behalf of the IPA CIS Council, thanked the IPU for supporting the initiative to include the International Day of Parliamentarism in the UN’s official calendar.

The parties also stressed the accession to the IPU of the two CIS member states – Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The IPA CIS Secretary General also shared on the hosting in the Tavricheskiy Palace of a conference dedicated to the International Day of Democracy on 15 September this year and thanked the IPU Secretary General for the welcome message addressed to the participants of this conference and the video on the Democracy Day provided by the IPU Secretariat, which was demonstrated to the participants of the meeting.

In his turn, Martin Chungong thanked Alexey Sergeev for his assistance in organizing and hosting of the 137^th IPU Assembly and expressed confidence in expanding cooperation and strengthening further interaction of the two organizations.
