Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with Head of the Bureau of the International Organization for Migration in Moscow Abdusattor Esoev

Acting Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with Head of the Bureau of the International Organization for Migration in Moscow Abdusattor Esoev at the IPA CIS HQ.

Abdusattor Esoev stressed the importance of continuing cooperation between the IOM and the IPA CIS in accordance with the Agreement on Cooperation between the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the International Organization for Migration, signed by IPA CIS Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko and IOM Director General William L. Swing on 17 May 2012. He also expressed confidence that joint activities of the organizations would facilitate the implementation of the Global Compact on Migration (GCM), signed by 164 countries, including all the IPA CIS Member Nations.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted that the cooperation with the IOM is an important dimension of the IPA CIS activities, as migration is a global problem and migration processes significantly affect the life of each state, the CIS as a whole, and the formation of legislation in this area.

The parties outlined spheres for joint activities, including the preparation of the Model Migration Code for the CIS Member Nations. The IOM is willing to provide expert support for model law-making in the field of migration.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Alexey Dolzhikov and Secretary of the IPA CIS PC on Social Policy and Human Rights Evgenia Vladimirova also attended the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, the parties assured each other on further close cooperation of the organizations moving forward.
